culture shock

Perfect weather, early start, beautiful day. Riding between Sherman
and Gainesville now. Coming into gorgeous, lush monied lands - farms,
ranches, minifarms and horse breeders. Huge houses & barns, manicured
grounds set far back from the roads.

But for the first time folks driving the back roads are not only not
waving hello - many are scowling! When I can see them, that is. So many in
black vehicles with black tinted windows. Strange.

I'm too intimidated to ride up the manicured driveways. Finally turn
in at a small, friendlier looking place with a few cows and empty
mini-pastures to ask if I might camp with my mule for the night.

Lucky choice... nice man says sure, so here we are. Hope the pretty roads
are friendlier tomorrow.
